Tonja Carpenter, IBCLC, PCD

Lactation Consultant and Postpartum Certified Doula

Tonja is a graduate of Baylor University and served as a Breastfeeding Counselor with Breastfeeding USA for several years before becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. She helped to run a local mother to mother weekly breastfeeding support group. She is also a Postpartum Certified Doula with DONA International. She owns and manages Postpartum Doula Services of Waco, LLC and Lactation Services of Waco.

Tonja developed a passion for helping moms work toward their breastfeeding goals after being unable to meet her own, after the birth of her fourth child, due to many many overwhelming challenges. The care and support she received from the lactation consultant during that time inspired her to become one herself. Whether supporting new moms and their families during the postpartum trimester or helping moms work through the challenges that present themselves to the breastfeeding dyad, Tonja is well equipped to serve the breastfeeding community here in Waco, TX.

Mary Washburn

Postpartum Certified Doula

I’m Mary Washburn. I’ve been married to my husband Tim for almost 40 years. We reside in Waco, Texas. Together we have three sons, three daughters in-love, five grandchildren, with number six and seven on the way. Such precious gifts!! Also, in the mix, is grandcat, Nugget, and grandbeagle, Bailey.

I believe “Doula-ing” is in my heart. The opportunity to offer support, to serve, to educate, and promote a more peaceful transition into the family after the birth of their newborn, or adopted infant, is at the heart of a DONA trained doula. I thank you for the privilege and opportunity in joining you on your mothering journey.

Trained Doula

Being a postpartum doula is my passion! As a mommy of three I know how challenging, sometimes overwhelming yet rewarding parenting can be. I believe all women have a given instinct of motherhood. My goal is to empower mommies with the education and support needed to survive the first few weeks after birth. I enjoy reading, attending church and spending time with family and friends. I feel so honored to work in this field that is full of life and love.

I love children and their mommas! As a mother of six and grandmother of ten, I have been blessed to help care for mothers and their babies in a number of ways. I serve as a mentor mom at my church, and I’m always thrilled to be able to pass along ideas, tips, encouragements, and my own successes and failures to moms.

My husband, Chris, who is now in Heaven, and I lived and raised our children here in Waco for many years. I homeschooled all my kiddos and cherished the interaction with them that being a stay at home mom provides. But being at home with babies can be challenging, and many moms are looking for more interaction with other adults and they need all the encouragement they can get. Moms who work outside the home have extra challenges that can be so difficult. We want to help Mom and babies get the best start possible. After all, they are raising the next generation, and we here at Waco Postpartum Doula Services of Waco want to help them in practical ways that make a difference.
